New Year’s Eve picnic and cannon firing at the Taalmonument
Celebrate the New Year with a New Year’s Eve picnic and cannon firing at the Taal Monument in Paarl, Wed 31 at 19h00. Adults R30, Kids R10.
A picnic, panoramic views and a cannon firing – that’s how one can celebrate the start of the new year at the New Year’s Eve picnic on 31 December at the Afrikaanse Taalmonument (ATM) in Paarl.
The picnic starts at 19h00 and ends at 00h30. A cannon firing will take place at 24h00, in collaboration with CAOSA (Cannon Association of South Africa). A member of the public who answers the cannoneer’s question correctly, will get the opportunity to fire the Half Pounder cannon (and will receive a certificate). The cannon is loaded with gunpowder (no projectile). The firing includes a bilingual talk on the history of cannons, as well as a demonstration of the use of all the loading gear. CAOSA hosts a series of cannon firings at the Taalmonument, at 11h30 on the last Saturday of every month.
Visitors are welcome to bring their own picnic baskets (the coffee shop will not be open). Tickets are available at the gate at R 30 for adults and R 10 for children. No booking is needed.
No dogs or fires are allowed.
Safe parking is available and access is controlled.
