Durban Diwali Festival
Durban Diwali Festival at the old Durban Drive-In site – a celebration of colour and light, from Fri 17 – Sun 19 Oct.
The South African Hindu Maha Sabha will host the Durban Diwali Festival 2014, uniting young Hindus from 17-19 October at the Old Durban Drive-In Site.
The Festival is planned to usher in Diwali 2014 with all the colour, splendour and light Durban has to offer; the theme for 2014 is ‘Vasudhaiva Kuymbakam’, meaning ‘The World is One Family’.
A brief summary of the three-day programme:
Friday October 17
SAHMS host the senior citizens for an afternoon of fun and entertainment; in the evening, there will be a chutney night for the youth, open to the public.
Saturday October 18
DDF Float Procession through the Durban CBD.
The grand opening will take place in the evening, showcasing international and local artists, the magical fireworks display, overseas trips to be won and a rocking bhangra.
Sunday October 19
Hawan Ceremony (all festival-goers are welcome to participate).
There will also be the Schools Art Competition and Exhibition with iPads and other exciting prizes up for grabs.
In addition to all the main highlights, the DDF will play host throughout the weekend to an on-site temple, food and shopping stalls, a mini amusement park for children and celebrity cooking demos, and more.
