Model car racing championship

Take the kids to watch some of the fastest electric on-road radio-control model cars and youngest competitors in SA! Sat 1/Sun 2. Free entry.

Faster than most supercars on the planet, these radio-controlled 1/10 scale model racing cars are capable of speeds up to 100km/h and can reach this speed from standstill in two seconds!

Take the kids down to the eastern end of the Southway Mall, where the fourth and final round of the NRDA Championships will be taking place on Saturday 1 and Sunday 2, hosted by the Durban Model Car Club. Local Westville lad, James Orchin (aged 7) will be competing.

Racing will start at about 08h30 on both days.

The qualifying events on Saturday will finish around mid-afternoon.

The finals on Sunday are expected to finish at around midday.

Spectators are welcome on both days. Entrance is totally free and food and drinks will be on sale at the event – catering will be done by the Escombe Scout Group.

Take a chair to sit on!

Anyone interested in getting involved in the sport is welcome to chat to any of the Durban drivers over the weekend.
