Family hike and picnic – Mont Rochelle
A gentle guided family hike (ages 6+ yrs) along one of the easier trails in the magnificent Mont Rochelle nature reserve on Sat 7 at 08h30.
Take a gentle hike along one of the easier hiking trails situated in the magnificent Mont Rochelle nature reserve, part of the UNESCO-declared Cape Winelands Biosphere Reserve, situated in the Franschhoek Mountains. The reserve offers diverse fynbos flora and fauna, and well-maintained hiking trails.
You will be welcomed by breath-taking surroundings of the Franschhoek Valley and enjoy an extravaganza of gorgeous scenery with unforgettable vistas and an abundance of nature’s treasures, such as proteas, pincushions, Ericas, bulbs and restios. You may even get to see an abundance of birds above, as well as tiny creatures below.
This is an easy hike and suited to those who are reasonably fit and can walk for a few hours – roughly 2/3 hours (approximately 6km). Young children aged 6+ years should manage this walk so long as they are keen to hike and be outdoors. Younger children may need a little help or carrying. Parental discretion is advised regarding small children. We do not recommend this hike for children under 5 years should they find walking hard or need a midday nap. Only you can be the judge of your child and his/her abilities and limits.
Andreas Groenewald will be leading this hike. He will share his knowledge of the area, the plants, rocks, birds etc. Andreas is a well-known guide who is excellent with all age groups. He is particularly good with children and will walk at their pace so as to allow them time to explore and discover fascinating creatures and plants along the path.
